Does My GPA From My Current School Transfer With Me?

Planning to transfer colleges? Find out whether your GPA carries over to your new school and learn the key differences between transferring credits and grades.

When you transfer colleges, the GPA from your original institution isn't carried over to the new one. Courses that you’ve completed generally transfer if you have a C or higher in the course, and it’s consistent with courses offered at your new school. The credits for that course transfer (if you've done your homework and planned your transfer well!), but not the grade. You begin your new GPA with the courses you’ll complete at your new school. However, if you apply to transfer again—or if you apply to graduate school—they’ll want to see all your previous transcripts, so keep that in mind as well.
