They offer women a wide range of opportunities in biological sciences, computer and mathematical operations, chemistry and physical sciences, various engineering fields, and earth sciences.&amp;nbsp;Some STEM careers may even pop up in unexpected ways, such as through mechanical engineering, in which thermodynamics and fluid mechanics play critical roles in making air conditioners work in your home.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Pursuing a career in STEM could lead to a lifetime of fulfilling research and contributions to scientific and technological advancements. As a young female student eager to make an impact, here are four tips to help you become a successful woman in STEM.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;h2&gt;1. Enroll in a strong STEM program&lt;/h2&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;The first step for women to achieve success in STEM fields is to enroll in a reputable degree program. STEM degree programs deliver interdisciplinary learning and hands-on experience with the latest technologies in your chosen career path. Perhaps most importantly, STEM programs are designed for students to gain essential skills necessary for their fields.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;While each specialization will equip you with problem-solving, critical-thinking, and research analysis skills, you&amp;rsquo;ll also acquire designated skill sets for your particular program. For example, a&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="/articles-and-advice/majors-and-academics/articles/choosing-major/what-can-you-do-math-major/"&gt;student pursuing mathematics&lt;/a&gt; will master logical reasoning, linear models, and mathematical formulas. As you pursue a STEM degree, practice asking for help from peers and faculty in general, regardless of gender. Ensure others realize how invaluable your skills and knowledge are and make your voice heard. Women have far more to prove due to the narratives and myths surrounding women in math and science. It wasn&amp;rsquo;t until the&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://www.hhs.gov/civil-rights/for-individuals/sex-discrimination/title-ix-education-amendments/index.html#:~:text=Title%20IX%20of%20the%20Education%20Amendments%20of%201972%20(Title%20IX,activity%20receiving%20federal%20financial%20assistance."&gt;Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972&lt;/a&gt; and the&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://www.hhs.gov/civil-rights/for-providers/laws-regulations-guidance/laws/index.html#:~:text=Section%20533%20of%20the%20Public,Assistance%20in%20Transition%20from%20Homelessness."&gt;Public Health Service Act of 1975&lt;/a&gt; were passed that women were allowed to pursue medical careers without prejudice.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Yet, even with laws in place to prevent gender discrimination, a recent study by the Pew Research Center found that only &lt;a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2021/04/01/stem-jobs-see-uneven-progress-in-increasing-gender-racial-and-ethnic-diversity/"&gt;47% of employees in mathematics were female&lt;/a&gt;. Similarly, only 40% of females worked in physical science, and 25% in computer sciences. Don&amp;rsquo;t expect to hide in the back of the room when you pursue a STEM degree; you will get noticed simply by being a woman in the field. Set yourself up for success by actively participating in lectures, internships, and other hands-on training.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

&lt;p&gt;Whether you&amp;rsquo;re a student, a graduate, or part of the workforce, professional organizations for women in STEM fields deliver plenty of opportunities for ongoing learning, research, advocacy, and career development. You are on this journey of growth and self-improvement, becoming capable of contributing to science and ultimately to the betterment of all society; therefore, it&amp;rsquo;s best to remind yourself why you started in the first place. Are you presenting to a room full of fellow classmates or coworkers, or patients and individuals who are not as familiar with certain topics or verbiage? If it's the latter, consider reducing the use of jargon and swapping lengthy words for simplistic synonyms. Being able to convey your thoughts and understanding of what is being communicated in return helps in a multitude of settings and contributes to productive conversations not only in the classroom and professional world but in your daily life as well.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;h2&gt;4. Organization&lt;/h2&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Having all your assignments, research projects, labs, and extracurricular activities sorted and scheduled can make all the difference when you&amp;rsquo;re facing a hectic week at school or work. &lt;p&gt;Much of the suffering modern world would benefit from new humane machines, inventions, and tools. For example, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently launched a &lt;a href="https://www.gatesfoundation.org/our-work/programs/global-growth-and-opportunity/water-sanitation-and-hygiene/reinvent-the-toilet-challenge-and-expo"&gt;Reinvent the Toilet Challenge&lt;/a&gt; for engineers and innovators across the world to improve bathroom sanitation in underprivileged areas. This is just one of the endless social problems that Engineering and Environmental Science majors could use their background in science to solve. However, along with the innovation, it&amp;rsquo;s incredibly important for these inventors to have a thorough knowledge of how to get their products to the needy and sustain their help over the long term. In situations like this, a Nonprofit Studies minor would equip students majoring in Engineering or Earth and Environmental Sciences with the ability to take their degree a step further and understand how people can not only purchase and monetize but also sustain a quality human life from their research and innovations.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;h3&gt;Political Science and Public Policy&lt;/h3&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Fields such as Biology, Chemistry, and Global Climate Science often require individuals to work hand-in-hand with government officials and agencies.
