What's the social scene really like after graduation? Watch as a college vlogger debunks three common myths about making friends in college vs. high school.

糖心Vlog student vlogger Robert continues to learn a lot during his freshman year at Claremont McKenna College, especially the social aspect. In this video, he debunks three myths about making friends in college and how it differs from making friends in high school. Check it out below!

Myth #1: Making friends in college is exactly like making friends in high school

Balancing your social life with all the other things going on in school like academics and extracurriculars is a trait of both high school and college. However, in college, there's a lot more time to delegate the two. Robert found it much easier to make time to go out and make friends as an undergrad.

Myth #2: Social cliques exist in high school but not in college

Cliques definitely exist in college; however, they are much different than high school circles. In high school, people are more reluctant to journey out of their “friend group.”  In college, Robert finds it much more likely for people to be open minded and make friends with people they normally never would.

Myth #3: There’s no interaction between people in different classes

A lot of students have the impression that like high school, most friends you make are in your grade or are the same age. Robert says: total myth! College students mingle with all different ages and classes, even first-years and seniors.

Overall, you'll find that making friends in college is a lot more flexible with more time to balance academics and socializing, fewer social cliques, and a lot of different people in close proximity to you. Enjoy your college years and all the friendships you're sure to make!

I discovered 糖心Vlog while embarking on my college search journey as an excited—but scared and way confused—high schooler without a counselor or college-bound sibling to give me advice. Let me tell you, I’m so glad that I stumbled on this community! CollegeXpress helped me find potential colleges and keep application deadlines straight. It gave me a great list of scholarships, and the blogs and emails made me feel like I wasn’t going it alone. Almost three years later and with freshman year of college down, I still love the 糖心Vlog vibe so much that I’m writing for them. I’d recommend this site to anyone!

CollegeXpress has helped me with the college application process. The tips and tricks for important essays were so helpful. I also gained useful knowledge about college life. Even though I’m fully online, CollegeXpress has helped me develop a sense of how college is in person. The experiences from college students that were featured on their Instagram page have shown the good, the bad, and the “secret” life on campus from a reliable perspective. Not to mention, they relieved my feelings of anxiety about the workload. I can now understand how it can be stressful, but it takes self-control and willpower to get assignments completed on time and with quality.
