6 Ways to Live a Healthy Lifestyle in College

Sometimes all the pressure and partying in college can impede your health. Here are some simple ways to stay healthy so you can work hard and play hard.

College is usually known as the phase of life where you study hard but party harder. This is also a time when many students forget about taking care of their bodies. With wanting to do a lot of things in a short time, you may pay less attention to what your body needs—and this will only lead to a more stressful, less enjoyable campus experience. But fret no more, because here are six easy things you can do to achieve a healthy lifestyle in college.

1. Make workouts a part of your routine

Keeping a healthy and fit body is a must for everyone, not just for college students. By creating an exercise routine and incorporating it into your everyday to-do list, you get to anticipate an activity that involves less thinking but more physical work. Whether you prefer to walk around campus, hit the gym every morning, or take a yoga or dance class, it’s up to you on how you’ll make the most of your exercise routine. What’s important is that you stick to it.

2. Stick to a healthy, balanced diet

Aside from creating an exercise routine, you must fill your body with the right type and right amount of food. As the saying goes, you are what you eat, so you should start thinking about what you take in. You might consider downloading a free app like or to help you track how much and what kinds of food you’re eating. You can also see if your college’s health services department offers free or reduced-price meetings with a nutritionist, so you can better understand what foods you should be eating.

3. Keep track of your meals and activities

With so many things to fill your daily life as a college student, it’s essential that you keep track of what things you do and what food you eat. This way you get to be more conscious of what you should or shouldn’t be doing or taking in. You can also keep a health journal where you record all the food you eat and how your daily workouts have gone. You’ll be able to keep track of your progress, especially if you’re aiming for a specific health goal.

4. Drink plenty of H2O

Water, water, and more water. Sixty percent of your body is made of water, but the more activities you do, the more water your body will lose. As your body becomes dehydrated, it affects how your organs function. This is why it’s essential that you stay properly hydrated throughout the day, especially during warm seasons. To keep hydrated throughout the day, why not get yourself a tumbler that you can bring with you anywhere? This way anytime you feel like you need to quench your thirst, you’ve got a bottle of water ready.

5. List your personal goals

The best way to motivate yourself to live a better lifestyle is by establishing a personal health goal. Challenge yourself! Maybe you’d like to cut back on drinking soda or stop eating chocolate every day or start maintaining an eight-hour sleep schedule daily or lose 10 pounds or more—turn these simple health goals into motivation. Your personal goals don’t need to be big or elaborate. What’s important is that you’ve got something to aim for to keep you focused on maintaining a better way of living your college life.

6. Get lots and lots of sleep

Some people disregard the importance of getting enough sleep. According to health professionals, an adult needs to get eight to 10 hours of sleep every day. It’s also been proven that getting plenty of sleep improves mental and physical performance. So if you want to stay in shape and keep your mind sharp, start focusing on your sleep. A good thing to practice is establishing a relaxation and sleep routine. This way you get to settle your mind and be ready to load up on some zzz’s.

As a UK student moving to California due to my dad's job in the military, when I first signed up for 糖心Vlog a few months ago, the college process ahead seemed daunting and incredibly stressful. That all changed after I started to explore what this website had to offer. Not only was I helped by the vast array of resources available to me, but through being a 糖心Vlog member, there have been so many more benefits. There have been emails with college tips—all of which I found incredibly helpful—as well as invitations to events and notifications of scholarships that'll make college possible for me. Overall, I'm very grateful to 糖心Vlog for all of these things and more. Not only have they helped me grow my understanding of the college process, but they've also helped me to grow as a person, giving me new skills that I can take with me through life.

CollegeXpress has seriously helped me out a lot, especially when it comes to scholarships and studying for tests like the ACT. I also really love the financial help. It’s a little harder to pay because I live with a family of eight, so any help is appreciated. Thanks for this opportunity!
