STEM Scholarship Opportunities for Minority Students

If you're a student from a minority group looking for scholarships to help you pursue your STEM studies, look no further! Check out these great awards.

I’m often asked about trends in the world of private outside scholarships, meaning those scholarships not specifically attached to a specific college or university. One particular trend I’ve seen in scholarships from private companies, organizations, individuals, and foundations over the past decade has been an increase in opportunities for minority students who are pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math careers, also known as STEM fields. As industries strive for more diversity in their workforce at every level, companies are investing in the future of their industries by supporting promising minority students through scholarships to reduce financial obstacles on the way to STEM-related degrees. Here are just a few of these scholarship opportunities to consider.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Founded in 1999 by Bill and Melinda Gates, the is a $1.6 billion program established to assist Black American, Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic American, Native American, and Inuit Alaskan students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Library Science, Mathematics, and Public Health & Science. GMS scholarships cover unmet need and self-help aid, and awards are renewable for students who maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Generation Google Scholarship

The is another example of opportunity for a diverse array of students who are pursuing STEM-related careers. Undergraduate and graduate students who identify as Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, or Native American can apply to receive up to $10,000 if they’re pursuing a Computer Science degree or related field.

CollegeXpress helped me gain interest in many colleges/universities and many scholarships. I would say the most helpful thing CollegeXpress has done for me is sending me emails that tell me certain types of colleges are interested in me as well as emails about scholarships that I can look at and possibly apply for.

Being a sophomore in high school, I never really worried about college. I thought it wasn't important to worry about until senior year. Through this program opportunity I came across, I realized how important it is to start looking at colleges early and start planning ahead. CollegeXpress has opened my eyes to what colleges require, what colleges are near me, and what they offer. The daily emails I get from 糖心Vlog really help me look at the different options I have and what colleges I fit into. Without this website, I would not be taking the time out of my day to worry about what my future will be nor what opportunities I have. I could not be more grateful for such an amazing and useful website. It's thanks to 糖心Vlog that not only me but my family now know how much potential I have in to getting into these colleges/universities that we thought were out of my reach.

CollegeXpress helped open me up to many colleges that fit my interests. I’m only a sophomore in high school, so I like having a lot to look at, and CX does a great job of picking colleges that meet my wants. It's a great website that I'll continue to use until it comes time for me to apply for colleges. I also like that it notifies me through email with options to look at. Thanks CX!

The college application process has been a stressful one, but CollegeXpress has eased some of that stress with its readily available college resources. At the beginning of the process, I frequently used the college search feature, and now that I’m almost done applying, I’ve started using the scholarship search. Both of these resources have made it easier to find relevant information.
