Starting the college search will vary from student to student. Many high school students feel prepared to begin conducting at least some initial college research and campus visits either in the second semester of their sophomore year or the first half of their junior year. You do not need to have a particular major in mind or many existing preferences in place when you first . However, you do want to get to know yourself.
Begin by reflecting on what kind of student you are, how you learn best, what kind of resources have helped you academically, what you like to do outside of school, and more. This will help you develop a college “vision” for yourself and will ensure you are considering schools for the right reasons. (Furthermore, when you write your college essays, this thoughtfulness will come across and improve your chances of being accepted!)
